An overview of focus group discussion as a key tool for the strategic planning process:
- Is based on a set of questions that is asked by one person to a small group of people e.g. stakeholders
- Is usually conducted directly in person
- Can be conducted with a group of varied size although four to eight people are considered optimal
- Can be anonymous, but often the people in the focus group are identified either formally (first and last names) or informally (first names only)
- Can vary in length, but should rarely take more than one hour.
